Bruchhausen

With about 5,200 residents, Bruchhausen is the largest village belonging to the municipality of Ettlingen, to which it has belonged since 1974. Bruchhausen lies at 118 m above sea level.
Bruchhausen first appears in an historical document in 1102, but it is called ‘villa Luitfridswilri’. The village was originally a settlement at the outer reaches of Ettlingenweier, in the marshes of the Rhine Valley. In 1307, Bruchhausen became a part of Stab Weier, a cooperative of villages also including Oberweier, Ettlingenweier, and for a time, Schluttenbach and Rimmelsbacher Hof. With the dissolution of Stab Weier in 1819, Bruchhausen became an independent community until it was incorporated into Ettlingen as part of the communal reforms of 1972-1974.
