Welcome to the historical old town of Ettlingen - with medieval alleyways and a lively pedestrian area perfect for strolling, exploring and shopping. Welcome to the six local districts which are nestled in the foothills of the northern Black Forest and situated between typical fruit orchards and the plains of the Rhine valley.

Ettlingen has a 2000 year history (the Romans had settlements here on the Alb River) and an 800 year municipal law. These details together with the reconstruction of the city around 1700 (under Countess Sibylla Augusta) helped to create the Ettlingen we see today. Proceed on a Historical city tour of discovery or take part in one of our guided guided programs in order to experience our historic old town. 

Ettlingen is located in the heart of Baden. It is an ideal starting place for breathtaking walks, hikes and bike tours in the Albtal (valley and region of the Alb River) and the northern Black Forest or for day trips near the Alsace region. For leisure and sport activities, Ettlingen has something for everyone: Nordic Walking, mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking, tennis and golf, swimming at the Albgaubad pool, visiting the Buchtzig Lake or the Waldbad for a swim. There are so many possibilities for you to be able to completely unwind. Additionally Ettlingen is the portal to the largest nature park in Germany, the Black Forest natural preserve.

Do you fancy culture? Nationally recognised events like the Schlossfestspiele (castle festival) are complemented by an array of special events; from music and dance to cabaret and exhibitions. Throughout the year the wide variety of clubs and festivals naturally draw visitors to Ettlingen. One can get acquainted with the history of Ettlingen at the castle museum or with important artists from the Baden region from the 20th century. Another special tip: The historic steam train travels through the Albtal. This is an old tradition in Ettlingen and takes place every summer.

Incidentally Ettlingen has a highly diversified gastronomy - from beer taverns to gourmet restaurants with French Mediterranean delicacies.
